Ship plans for the Phoenix 1743

Here's something very cool from British archives, ship plans for what I think is the VERY ship that Hans Gorg Schlotterbeck rode over in 1751.  Check out the records of his arrival here: USGWarchives.org.

The Phoenix was a 6th rate 24 gun war ship that was built in 1743.  She was built at the Deptford Dockyard which is in London on the River Thames.

(The Deptford Dockyard in 1747. by John Cleveley the Elder)

The plans below are original dating back to 1743 and they're found at the National Maritime Museum located in London.  I'm not sure if you're understanding just how cool this is.  269 year-old ship plans for the very vessel that issued our family name to the New World.

As more and more archives are becoming digitalized and published it's making tracing back history easier.  But with new information comes new questions.  I wonder what life was like on board the Phoenix.  How long did they spend in their journey from Europe to Philadelphia?

What made Hans Gorg pledge his allegiance and take the big trip?

Hopefully in time we'll learn more.  If YOU have anything to add, please contacts us at 2schlotterback@gmail.com or comment on this post.

  3. Does anyone have the parents of Hans Gorg Schlotterback(I'm at a dead end)?

I have a copy of the Schlotterback coat of arms but no info on who was the Schlotterback that applied for it, and when?
